Landscape and Nature in Ceramics

I find walking in nature both exhilarating and calming. I aim to create ceramics that I hope will bring some of that into your homes - so you can have a little of the outdoors, indoors.

I am a walker and a reader - going out and exploring signs of the past and present, the actions of weather and humans on the landscape. These outings don’t usually take me far from home, though of course I grab any opportunity to travel further afield - I love the the coast and mountains, so different from our local southern downlands!

However familiar the scene, I find something to influence my ceramics.

I joined a co-working hour the other day hosted by the author Clover Stroud, instead of writing (though i did write a bit too) I got on with thsi pot, which suddently decided it wanted to have Wayland’s Smithy on it. So here’s the beginning of that.

I often like to make pots that look like they have been at the bottom of the sea for a few decades/centuries (it's the archaeologist in me I think). The technique of using sodium silicate to allow the clay surface to be cracked is horribly addictive! Here's test pot from a few weeks ago using crank terracotta & porcelain.

This is the ‘back’ of the Childrey Warren pot, my customer asked for a little Uffington Horse on the piece, as well as the Warren.
